Birdsmill to Almondell

Near Broxburn

Country Park

Our fishings start at Birdsmill, Broxburn / Cliftonhall Road, Newbridge at present we only have the left bank (looking upstream (Newbridge ind est. side)). Our double bank fishing starts just upstream of Illieston castle and continues throughout our whole catchment. This beat is Approximately 3 miles in length.

Birdsmill (located near Broxburn) up to the bottom of Almondell Country Park, offers some fantastic opportunities. However, it's important to note that access to this section can be tough due to steep embankments and little parking areas. With a little extra effort, though, you'll be rewarded with a great fishing experience with a great chance of catching some stunning Brown Trout and even the possibility of the odd silver tourist (Salmon or Sea Trout).

Parking

This beat has very limited parking possibilities.

Parking is available at the union canal / Almond Aqueduct car park and the river is accessible by going down some steps beside the car park then down a rather steep embankment alongside the aqueduct.

There is also space for a couple of vehicles just off of Cliftonhall Road, Newbridge, Park at the top of the farmers track going through the field and there is then a 0.5 mile walk down to the river down a muddy track / field. This field belongs to an active farm and therefore Tractors need to use the track so please park considerately baring this in mind especially during summer months when combine harvesters will be in use!

Unfortunately there are very few other parking opportunities on this stretch of river at the moment. There may be a few access points you can park at close to the river but please do not park or drive into any fields or block access to any gates wherever you may park.

Do not block any gates or park over any kind of driveway, leave all gates as you find them and if asked to leave an area please do so immediately and make us aware of this as soon as possible.
